About Me

I’ve never been good at writing my own bio, but I’ll try my best.

I go by TJB here, as well as my author blog over on a different website. I’ve written several books, and had them published independently with varying degrees of success.

I was born with Peter’s Anomaly: a rare condition that effects my vision. After multiple eye surgeries between the ages of three and five, coupled with one last operation at the age of eleven, I’m basically operating on one eye, and even then, that eye doesn’t have the best vision in the world.

I am a lover of all things science fiction and fantasy, metal music, hockey, video games, pugs, and many other interests.

I’ve been described in the past as a “left wing libertarian”. Which… I guess I agree with? While I’ll try to stay as apolitical as I can, I’m unfortunately not immune to being an opinionated asshole from time to time, so bare with me on that one.

I started this website because for quite a while now, I’ve wanted to make a retrospective series of some kind. It originally started as an idea for a YouTube channel, but YouTube’s content policy has gotten bitchier and bitchier to the point where I’d probably get flagged for showing off anything on screen.

The second complication, which is more on me than YouTube, is that I couldn’t decide on what to do an episode review on. Or maybe I didn’t want to talk about an episode so much as I wanted to talk about a certain aspect, like the monster of the day, or the lesson the show is trying to get across, or something.

Lastly… Embarrassing as it is to admit out loud, I actually tried making a video version of the kind of stuff you see here on the site, and it became abundantly clear to me that I was in over my head. The portion of video I’d been able to put together looked like something The Mysterious Mr. Enter would’ve put together in his early years, and that’s me being positive.

In the long run, text and pics suit me a lot better. WordPress’ block editor was a thing that took some figuring out. Especially since I use a screen reader, and WordPress’s block editor and screen reader software like Jaws for Windows don’t seem to get along especially well. As of this posting, though, I think I have a handle on how everything works now.

Once I settled on that, the topic of what I wanted to cover remained the issue. After further contemplation, I said screw it, and decided to cover it all.

Here, you will find articles on whatever I happen to find fascinating that particular week. One minute, it might be an article on a character, and the next, it might be about an old PC or console game, and the next after that, it might be about a fad from my childhood, and so on. You never know what you’re going to get here on How About That Thing, so the best thing to do is come back every week, and see what the thing is.

I’m looking forward to sharing my ramblings with all of you, and I hope they’re as entertaining in text as they seemed to be in my head.
